I am deep in a Wikipedia dives on the astrology of Saturn and don't want to forget these things
- Between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD, the Roman Empire gradually replaced the eight-day Roman nundinal cycle with the seven-day week.
- Saturnalia - Saturnalia was an annual festival between December 17 - December 23. Capricon season, which is ruled by Saturn, starts on December 21, so mid-season. The interesting part of this, acording to Wikipedia, is Saturnalia is a holiday celebrating aboriginal people and aboriginal custom. This ideal that before , in an ideal 'Golden age' when the world was ruled by Saturn, all people were equal. No one had private property, there was no need to own as people were just free. Saturnalia was a festival about breaking the difference between the enslaved and free within Rome, bringing them to an equal, festive playing field. For the day, everyone had equal value and equal access to joy, because joy/freedom was not a limited resource to be delegated. The enslaved even had enough liberties to gag on their enslavers.
- There is also a darkness to Saturnalia, as gladiators were used as human sacrifices. "the offering of gladiators led to later theories that the primeval Saturn had demanded human victims" . Eventually, through metaphor and word-association, life became lights became gifts. I wonder if there's a Christmas element to this, considering the winter Solistice, the start of Capricorn season, is in the middle of Saturnalia.
- "Saturnalia was characterized by role reversals and behavioral license. Slaves were treated to a banquet of the kind usually enjoyed by their masters." -- Reminds me of The Feast of Fools / Topsy Turvey in Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame. Masks are a huge theme to that song. Plus, masks were another offering presented by Romans during Saturnalia. Also, Topsy Turvey is about the oppressed mocking their opressers and having additional liberties, for the day.
- "During the late medieval period and early Renaissance, many towns in England elected a "Lord of Misrule" at Christmas time to preside over the Feast of Fools" -- called it . It is warm weather in the movie Hunchabck of Notre Dame, but it makes sense that it is a re-interpertation of Feast of Fools (Jan 1st) / Saturnalia
- The most fascintating part of Saturnalia is how repressed Capricorns are and how insecure (or realistic) Capricorns are about the limited amount of resources out there (in society), and how they are not entitled to anything. They feel as if they need to work hard to gain succeess / safety / value. And how accomplishing success is what makes a calm Capricorn. I find that so interesting and ironic, when there was a time in mythology where Saturn ruling all is equating to removal of classes. Of a sense of abundance. It makes me wonder if a Capricorn's work ethic / anxiety is because their ruler once ruled all and now does not, and that leaves them more attune that the way the world is right now isn't what could have been. That safety or freedom is not abundant in this world. I don't see Capricorns as a force that fights against that power imbalance (tho I do know Capricorns who do that work, I wouldn't say anti-Capitalism is a Capricornian attribute) , but are instead victims of the power imbalance. This makes me feel as if Capricorn's are an unbalanced people, not quite made for this world but having to make the best of it. People who survive whilst knowing survival is limited , ever since the Golden Age of Saturn's rule has ended.
- Planets_in_astrology#Saturn - In classical Roman mythology, Saturn is the god of seeds, crops, husbandry and the harvest (agriculture), leader of the titans, father and founder of civilizations, social order, and conformity.
- Famous rings of the planet Saturn that enclose and surround it, reflect the idea of human limits.
- "In astrology, Saturn is associated with focus, precision, nobility, ethics, civility, lofty goals, career, great achievements, dedication, authority figures, stability, virtues, productiveness, valuable hard lessons learned, destiny, structures, protective roles, balance, meritocracy, conservatism, and karma (reaping what you have sown or cosmic justice) but with limitations, restrictions, boundaries, anxiety, tests, practicality, reality, and time."
- I feel like Saturn now is so harsh but I’m wondering if Saturn is harsh because it no longer has the power it once had, like maybe it is penance. Like (according to mythology) I gave you an anti-class society, and you disposed it, so now you have to think about the outcome of your actions, as they actually have consequences when freedom is limited.
